A LIFETIME WITH WOOD

Craftsmanship built over decades.

Dallas has worked with wood since leaving school, spending around 20 years in the joinery industry followed by 23 years in painting and finishing.

That combination of practical woodworking experience and specialist finishing knowledge now shapes the way he approaches every piece he creates.

Rather than beginning with a fixed design and forcing timber to fit it, Dallas starts with the wood itself. Its shape, grain, knots, weathering, hollows and natural imperfections all help determine what the finished piece will become.

I love creating wood pieces that combine art, function and character. I can spend hours walking the beaches looking for driftwood that has a specific character.

THE PROCESS

From coast to finished piece.

Much of the work begins long before the tools come out. Dallas spends time searching beaches for driftwood with the right form, texture and individuality.

01

Find the Character

Pieces are selected for their natural form rather than their perfection. Curves, knots, weathering and unusual shapes are often what make a piece worth bringing home.

02

Let the Timber Lead

The design develops around the wood. Dallas works with the existing shape instead of removing the features that give the timber its identity.

03

Build & Shape

Each piece is individually constructed and refined by hand, balancing natural form with strength, function and visual proportion.

04

Seal & Finish

Depending on the piece, the timber is sealed using epoxy or shellac sealer and finished with Briwax waxes to enhance its colour, grain and naturally aged character.

FUNCTIONAL ART

Art, sculpture and something to live with.

Dallas sees each finished piece as more than furniture or décor. The aim is to create something that works as art, sculpture and a usable object at the same time.

Lighting is an important part of that process. Warm light can reveal grain, texture, hollows and shadows that would otherwise go unnoticed, giving a piece a completely different presence when illuminated.

Shaped by rivers and oceans, then given a second life as functional art.
